Administering Medication via Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Tube
7551 STUDENTS ENROLLED
A PEG tube is used when long-term support for nutritional needs and medication administration is required and the oral route is not tolerated.
When administering medications via a PEG tube, it is essential to utilise a liquid form of medication when available or to crush medications finely and dissolve well prior to administration to avoid blockage of the tube. Mix crushed medications with water not feeding preparations.
Before administering a medication via an enteral feeding tube, always confirm that this is the intended route for administration.
