Complex Wound Dressing

Wound dressings may be performed by appropriately trained health care professionals. The aim of a wound dressing is to prevent the introduction of microorganisms to the underlying wound and promote moist wound healing.

A wound management chart outlines specific instructions for wound care. A wound assessment must be completed and documented each time a wound dressing is performed. A wound assessment requires problem solving and the application of specialised knowledge. In addition, the need for analgesia should also be considered prior to the procedure.

Documentation of the procedure should be completed on all relevant forms/charts.
