Administering Oral Medication – Scored Tablets
8228 STUDENTS ENROLLED
Medication is most commonly administered via the oral route. There are many forms of oral medication, including but not limited to tablets (which may be swallowed or chewed) and wafers (which may be placed under the tongue to dissolve). The prescribed form depends on the medication and the client.
It is appropriate to halve or quarter tablets if they have a scoring grove. This groove enables the tablet to be broken into the correct dosage as required by cutting the tablet along the scored line.
