Cleaning a Trolley

Prior to and post performing any procedure, a healthcare worker must consider the immediate environment. An important environmental consideration is ensuring the trolley used during the procedure is cleaned prior to gathering equipment and after disposing of used equipment. The importance of performing this procedure cannot be underestimated.

Using hospital-grade disinfectant wipes, clean all surfaces, including the legs and rails of the trolley, to reduce the amount of pathogenic microorganisms.

At all times nurses should follow their organisational policies and guidelines in relation to cleaning a trolley and should follow manufacturer’s instructions when using cleaning agents.
