Assisting a Client to Clean Their Dentures

The goal of assisting a client to clean their dentures is to promote the client’s oral hygiene and to maintain their dignity and independence.

Throughout the procedure, it is important for the nurse to observe for any changes to the lips, mucosa, tongue or dentures and report these as per organisational policies and procedures. A clean mouth promotes comfort and can assist in nutritional intake by stimulating the appetite.
